Prairie Ridge History
Beginning of Prairie Ridge
In 2003 Valpo-Sturdy Rd LLC, operated by Richard “Rick” Hornat, purchased 30 acres of property formerly belonging to Edward and Louise Wittmer, of which the larger tract of land was commonly called “Wittmer Farms”. This larger tract included the subdivision to the North of Prairie Ridge, the agricultural field to our South and the Aldi distribution facility to our East.
Platting (2004-2005)
In 2004, Valpo-Sturdy Rd LLC applied for primary and secondary plat approval to the Porter County Planning Commission requesting that the plat be accepted to service 70 lots with city water and sewer services, and removing three lots next to the retention basin to comply with City of Valparaiso requirements for green space. This plat was approved in 2004 to allow for construction of 70 single-family residents, a 3-lot green space, and a retention basin for stormwater management.
Construction Phase (2006-2015)
In 2006 Valpo-Sturdy Rd LLC began construction of the sewer and water mains in the subdivision, and the very first home in the subdivision began construction. Between 2007 and 2015 all 70 homes in the subdivision were constructed by a number of builders. In 2015 the Developer turned over the Homeowners Association Board to the homeowners in Prairie Ridge.
